MassUserRights provides a link to a modal (without changing location) which allows the user to list users to be promoted/demoted. The default usergroups bureaucrat, administrator, discussions moderator, chat moderator, rollback and content moderator are listed by default, though custom usergroups can be added for particular wikis (see below).

Installation

Add this JavaScript on your wiki:

Global Personal
w:Special:Mypage/global.js Special:Mypage/common.js
massUserRightsDelay = 1000;
importScriptPage('MassUserRights/code.js', 'dev');
importArticles — Best Practices for installing JavaScript on Fandom
The importArticles statement is designed to combine multiple HTTP requests into a single data transfer, allowing multiple scripts to load and execute faster. If you've been installing several different scripts, your JavaScript file has probably accumulated unnecessary import statements. Click "Expand" to learn how to efficiently batch import scripts to speed up performance and make your code look cleaner. One other approach is by using the MediaWiki:ImportJS.
If your JavaScript file has several lines of code that say importScript, importScriptPage, or importArticles, you may be able to combine them! By batch importing a collection of scripts with a single import, your JavaScript code will load faster and look cleaner. Consider the example below. On the left is an example of what your JavaScript file might currently look like. On the right is how you could improve that code.
Multiple imports — messy and slow One import — clean and efficient
importScriptPage('AjaxRC/code.js','dev');

importScript('MediaWiki:localScript.js');

importArticle({
  type: 'script',
  article: 'u:dev:FloatingToc/code.js'
});

importScriptPage('page1.js', 'wikiname');

importScriptPage('page2.js', 'wikiname');
importArticles({
    type: 'script',
    articles: [
        'u:dev:AjaxRC/code.js',
        'MediaWiki:localScript.js',
        'u:dev:FloatingToc/code.js',
        'u:wikiname:page1.js',
        'u:wikiname:page2.js'
    ]
});
Note: In this example, pay close attention to the placement of commas and other punctuation. For people who aren't familiar with programming (and even those who are!), a common mistake when writing code is to accidentally delete, forget, or misplace critical symbols like commas or quotation marks. This can cause a syntax error that breaks the code. Carefully follow the convention shown here when using importArticles.
But there's much more to importArticles than just this! For more examples and advanced usage, see the help page at Help:Including additional JavaScript and CSS.

Usage

Select whether you would like to add or remove users from a usergroup with the dropdown menu (it is set at "Add" by default). In order to handle multiple users, add the usernames (without the User: prefix) each on a new line and proceed to handle them. The script will stop when it reaches an empty line.

In order to add custom usergroups, you need to follow this particular format for each entry, and add it above the import:

massUserRightsCustom = [
  "1|2|3"
];

Where:

  • 1 - the wiki URL name, for example Fandom Open Source Library is "dev"
  • 2 - the usergroup database name; for example the Code Editor usergroup is listed as codeeditor on Special:ListGroupRights after clicking (list of members), so we would use "codeeditor"
  • 3 - the usergroup display name; for example codeeditor would display as Code Editor, so we would use "Code Editor"

Going by what the above explanation said, the way we can add the usergroup would be:

massUserRightsCustom = [
  "dev|codeeditor|Code Editor"
];

An example of custom multiple wikis and usergroups:

massUserRightsCustom = [
  "dev|codeeditor|Code Editor",
  "answers|patroller|Patroller",
  "mlp|imagecontrol|Image Control"
];

It is strongly recommended that you are using an account that has a bot flag when using this script excessively, as excessive user rights changes can flood the recent changes/wiki activity.

By default, the script will do one page per second. If you'd like to modify that, add the config massUserRightsDelay before importing the script with your own number (in milliseconds) instead.

Monobook

The option to use the Mass User Rights script will appear in your toolbox on the left.

Oasis

The option to use the Mass User Rights script will appear under your "My Tools" list (the toolbar at the bottom of your screen).

Please note you must not have the toolbar at the bottom hidden or the script will not function. If you do not see the "My Tools" (or other language equivalent), try clicking Customize and then "reset defaults" to not hide the "My Tools".
